Treating wood to eliminate insects
Strict international stipulations demand wooden packaging products to be treated against (wood-attacking) insects. Fumico offers this treatment, for example in containers, by fumigating the wood or by performing a heat treatment.
Wooden objects
The treatment to fight and eliminate wood-attacking insects is used for a great variety of wooden products like statues, boxes, crates, furniture, wooden floors and wood packaging material like pallets, dunnage, packaging wood, and lids of crates.
ISPM 15
Many countries have put quarantine regulations in place to protect their native forests from the introduction of wood pests. In order to prevent the proliferation of differing import regulations, the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat, part of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, has issued ISPM 15 (International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures) “Guidelines for Regulating Wood Packaging Material in International Trade” (source www.smhv.nl). The SMHV (Foundation Marking Wooden Packaging) is the Dutch authority dealing with the correct application and organisation of the Dutch part of ISPM 15.
