BMSB treatment in The Netherlands

Australia and New Zealand have set seasonal requirements for the export of risk goods from risk countries, including the Netherlands. As a result, these goods must be handled according to the BMSB handling requirements from September 2024 to May 2025. With this, the countries want to prevent the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) from entering Australia and New Zealand.

BMSB (Brown Marmorated Stink Bug)

The Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) is an insect that causes significant damage to various crops, trees and fruits. It is also known as the tawny or East Asian stink bug.

It is native to Asia and has spread throughout North America and Europe. Most likely through sea freight in goods. If this insect were to establish itself in Australia and New Zealand, this pest would be extremely difficult and expensive to control. It cannot be easily controlled with pesticides and eats a huge range of plants. It likes to hide in houses when the temperature drops and, as the name suggests, also produces a very unpleasant odor. Moreover, it also poses a major economic risk because the BMSB causes a lot of agricultural crop damage.

What are high-risk goods for BSMB?
All goods manufactured in or shipped from a high-risk country are subject to the measures of the BMSB treatment. These goods range from wood to complete machines. Fumico handles these goods, whether they are loosely packed or have to be transported in sea containers. With this list you can check whether your shipment contains high-risk goods.
